Welding in Plant City

We are not a Tampa shop that lists Plant City on a map page. Hal Ironwake opened on Airport Rd in 1988 and the shop has never moved.

On site within the hour

This is our home turf. The shop sits on Airport Rd, which means most of Plant City is inside a fifteen-minute drive and we are typically on site within the hour during shop hours — often faster during harvest, when we stage the rig closer to the fields.

What we do here

Welding & fabrication for Plant City

Plant City work runs on the agricultural calendar, and after nearly forty years here we plan our year around it. From roughly December through March, the strawberry crop dictates everything. A cracked tool bar, a snapped three-point hitch arm or a split spray-rig boom at six in the morning is not an inconvenience during picking season — it is a lost day of fruit that does not come back. That is the single biggest reason the mobile rig runs 24/7 dispatch, and it is why growers along Trapnell, Keysville and Sam Allen roads have our number in their phones rather than in a drawer.

Beyond the fields, the packing houses and cooler facilities keep us in dock levelers, bumper frames, conveyor supports, catwalks and equipment platforms — the unglamorous steel that a food facility needs kept in serviceable, inspectable condition. We build to the same D1.1 standard whether the job is a mezzanine in a packing house or a beam in a commercial building, because a certified welding inspector does not care what the building holds.

The Florida Strawberry Festival grounds bring a seasonal rush of their own. Gates, fence line, railing, stage framing, bleacher hardware and vendor equipment all take a beating from a few hundred thousand visitors and then sit in Florida humidity for eleven months. We do a steady trade in repairing and re-coating that steel before it goes back into service, and in fabricating replacement sections when repair stops being sensible.

The I-4 corridor is the other constant. Plant City sits between Tampa and Lakeland on one of the hardest-worked stretches of interstate in the state, and everything that gets hauled along it eventually needs a weld. Equipment trailers coming off the exits at Park Road and Branch Forbes arrive here with cracked tongue gussets, sheared spring hangers and ramp gates that have been folded the wrong way. We keep trailer stock on the rack specifically so that work can turn around in days rather than weeks.

For homeowners and small businesses in town, the everyday list holds steady: driveway gates that have sagged on their hinges, security bars, fence posts, handrail that will not pass an inspection, ornamental work, and the occasional cast repair someone has been carrying around for years. There is no minimum job. Delia has never turned away a two-inch weld from a neighbour, and that is not going to change.
